Fandom has certainly willed Mirror’s Edge into existence and plenty of other games have lifted its mechanics and planted them in other genre offerings, so we’re left to wonder what exactly Mirror’s Edge will bring to the table aside from more fleet-footed scrambling over city rooftops.
“Mirror’s Edge is all about fluidity, physicality and movement,” Sara Jansson, senior producer on Mirror’s Edge , said earlier in the year. “We want to make sure we evolve the game and Faith in a way that gives you an exciting new player experience. We want the game to be accessible enough to embrace new players while at the same time reward the skilled player. We are also committed to provide the best first-person close combat in the world. Advanced combat that is integrated into an improved fluidity of movement. These are not small undertakings, but they are challenges that we are up for.”
“Has there ever been a less likely, less-needed sequel in gaming than Mirror’s Edge?”It certainly sounds as if DICE has taken note of what was lacking in the predecessor notably, anything other than running very fast and is making a concerted effort to, not only improve the systems, but build a more compelling game around them. And while we’ve not seen anything new from the game in quite a while, it looks like we’ll be hearing more from Mirror’s Edge very soon.
“I am fortunate enough to play the game we are building every day and I cannot wait to share it with all of you and soon enough, I will,” Jansson promised fans in a teasing statement. “The way that the team has reduced all the little obstacles of playing the first game, while adding a bunch of innovative stuff makes it an extremely thrilling experience. The uniqueness of the Mirror’s Edge universe is still there, but with a new and fresh feel to it. We’re also dedicated to let you know more about both Faith and the world that she isa part of this time around. But more about that later…”
